With the expanding geriatric population, the clinical nutrition spends are expected to increase in the future. Due to the frail digestive framework at an old age, it becomes troublesome for a human body to assimilate all the required nutrients, from food. Among the geriatric population, the loss of appetite is considered a major widespread issue; due to which, the elderly population does not get essential amount of nutrients.
Therefore to get adequate supplements, the reliance of the geriatric population towards clinical nutrition support, is expanding. The worldwide clinical nutrition business sector is expanding because of high birth rate, an increase in the number of victims receiving malnutrition treatment, and a high number of premature births.
The global clinical nutrition market is expected to reach $ 50.9 billion by 2020 at a CAGR of 5.3% during the forecast period.
On the basis of product, parenteral nutrition is by far the fastest growing segment of global clinical nutrition market and it is expected to reach $4.4 billion by 2020.
Based on product, infant nutrition commands the largest market share of global clinical nutrition market and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% during the period 2014 to 2020.

Japan has the largest old age population in Asia-Pacific. It is expected that one out of 2.5 people in Japan would be over 60 years, by 2050. Additionally, the increasing number of malnutrition treatment cases in the region is expected to increase the demand for clinical nutrition. From 2012 – 2014, a prevalence of undernourishment is highest in India (around 15.2%), followed by China (around 10.6%) in Asia-Pacific.
